Old Dutch Mill Torn Down ~ Elva Seely Guyman Collection
This building was torn down in approximately........and was located east of where Beck's Furniture now stands or where Rodger and Jenni's is now located.
Kathy: I do not remember this building as the” Dutch Mill” It was the corner candy store in my day (1929-30) and was owned by the Madsen Brothers. I’m guessing they sold or rented it to Drug Store Johansen from across the street and his son in law Glen Williams then ran it as a candy, hamburger, and malt operation. The Madsen brothers , from down Moroni way build a place just north for their saloon as soon a beer drinking was allowed back, about summer 1933, just as Roosevelt promised. The building also carried a full side wall ad for , I think, Levi’s rumored to have been painted by an artist from

Construction of New North Ward Church ~ from the Elva Guyman Collection
The cornerstone of this new meeting house is dated 1952. the year construction of the new building was started. Dedication was June 24, 1956
Look to the far right of the photo. Social Hall is still standing.
The building could not be dedicated until it was payed for. The new church was completely built in 1954. It was dedicated in 1956. Many banquets were held to raise money to pay for the building. Those that remember say, "We ate our way into the new North Ward Church".
New North Ward Church ~~ The black Ford directly in front is Neldon Rigby's ~my father who helped construct it.

Early Mt. Pleasant Main Street
Marlane Harless brought in this picture from her Aunt Elva Guyman's Collection. The upstairs window of the far right building says "Doctor Cassaday". Does anyone have any knowledge or history of Doctor Cassaday? Can you identify the era when this picture was taken? Was it before the automobile? Was it before the famous Main Street Fire? We have our ideas, but we would like to hear yours.
